Grassroots Philanthropists Promote 'Creative Giving' $100 at a Time
PND - A group of small-time philanthropists calling itself the Secret Society of Creative Philanthropy is inspiring acts of nontraditional giving, the New York Times reports.
Established five years ago by Courtney Martin, a Brooklyn-based writer, the group distributes $100 each to friends, who, in turn, commit acts of "creative giving" — handing money out on subway cars, publishing the writing of students in a nonprofit literacy program, buying a video camera for a public high school, or leaving $5 bills bearing quotations about giving in public places.
